A – Redbook Introduction
Introduction
Byron L. Warnken, Esq., Michael Patrick Lytle, Esq. and the staff of attorneys, law clerks, interns and administrative personnel are dedicated to the constitutional rights of individuals who have been accused of, and/or been convicted of, criminal wrongdoing. This includes the full spectrum of legal severity – from juvenile delinquency proceedings to death penalty cases, and the full spectrum of legal arenas — from the state District Courts to the Supreme Court of the United States. The Firm has had great success on behalf of its clients. Of course, success in one case does not necessarily mean success in another case, even if the legal issues are the same. Each case presents unique legal issues, with a different client, going before a different judge. Thus, each case must be viewed as a separate “battle,” and the Firm tries to win these battles one client at a time.
This Firm’s attorneys, like other experienced criminal defense attorneys, prevail on behalf of clients at the trial level on a regular basis. For most criminal defense firms, trial practice is their entire law practice. For this Firm, about 25% of its criminal defense practice is trial work. Few law firms – even good criminal defense firms – have a criminal post-verdict practice. For this Firm, about 75% of its criminal defense practice is post-verdict. Knowing the criminal justice system from Trial to Parole makes us who we are.
Professor Byron L. Warnken, the Firm’s founder, has taught Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure at the University of Baltimore School of Law for more than 30 years. In 2011 his book on Maryland Criminal Law and Procedure will be published. The book in your hands is called Trial to Parole. It is known throughout Maryland, both in lockup and out, as The Red Book. It is not just a sales pitch for Warnken, LLC – it is a tool for learning about the criminal justice system. Even if you don’t hire Warnken, LLC for your criminal case, keep the book. Make sure your lawyer knows which parts apply to your case.
The fees for the Firm’s legal services are available as an insert to this book. If your copy of this book does not contain a current fee schedule, please contact us and we will provide you with one. Clients may pay the fees for legal services by check, cash, money order, or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover). For criminal trial representation, the Firm requires 50% of the fee for legal services before the Firm provides legal services and the remaining 50% of the fee for legal services before the Firm enters its appearance in a court. For criminal post-trial representation, the Firm requires 50% of the fee for legal services before the Firm provides legal services and the remaining 50% of the fee for legal services according to a schedule agreed to by the client and the Firm. Each case is different – please refer to the fee schedule, then call us.
