Fun Facts About Lauren

• She is a first-generation American, her family is from the Netherlands. So she can speak Dutch fluently.
• She has a twin sister and they are very difficult to tell apart.
• She has her own small business, where she professionally braids horse manes for hunter/jumper horse shows.

Background

Lauren grew up in the Monkton area, surrounded by horse farms which is how her love for riding began. She started working with horses professionally when she was 16 years old. She would gallop race horses, work in barns, and did training rides. Lauren has a passion for horses, and loves being around them, but she always knew that she wanted to help people. 

She began her undergraduate career online at Purdue University and then transferred to the University of Maryland online. Unfortunately, with Covid-19 it was difficult for Lauren to take the step towards working outside of horses. Her first opportunity was with the University of Maryland’s convention center, helping with Covid relief efforts. From there she moved to a small department working in a lab doing specimen processing. But Lauren still had this desire to help people, and she felt as though she wasn’t making a huge impact. That’s when she decided to go into the law field. 

Gaining Firsthand Experience

Lauren has been in the law field for a couple years now, and really enjoys what she’s doing. She knows that she’s helping people, and she likes that the job requires a lot of organization, because staying organized is one of her strongest skills. Her days are not always the same and she loves that, as long as she gets her work done by the deadline, it’s all in her freedom to organize her priorities. 

Even though Lauren hasn’t been with Warnken for long, she has already noticed how client focused the firm is. “Everything we do is for the best result for the client, and to just communicate with them and put what’s in their best interest at the forefront.” 

Lauren is currently applying for law school and hopes to be enrolled for fall of 2026. One day she hopes to be a workers’ compensation attorney, but she doesn’t want to completely leave her passion for horses behind her. Currently she pursues it as a fun hobby, but her ultimate goal is to be able to practice law as an attorney and further her passion for horses simultaneously. 

Besides her passion for horses, Lauren also loves her cats, Greyson and Rascal. She loves to snowboard and to lift weights at the gym. Working out at the gym is a really good outlet for Lauren, it helps her with stress or really anything that she is struggling with. Other than that, she loves Mexican food, and traveling to Vermont and Florida.
