- Claimant sustained injury after lifting a heavy object at work. Claimant underwent surgery to repair the torn rotator cuff. Claimant underwent work hardening therapy post-operatively and was able to return to pre-injury employment.

- Client was involved in a motor vehicle collision while working as a tractor trailer driver. After conservative care failed, an MRI revealed degenerative spondylolisthesis at L4-5 resulting in spinal canal narrowing and a disc herniation at L5-S1. The injured worker underwent a series of three spinal epidural injections, which did not bring relief. The Claimant was recommended for an anterior lumbar interbody fusion at L5-S1, but the injured worker did not wish to undergo surgery. After a period of vocational rehabilitation, the Claimant returned to work in a lighter physical capacity job. The claim was heard for permanency, and the Commission found 25% permanent partial disability, with 20% related to the accidental injury. Claimant filed an appeal and the claim was resolved through mediation. Prior to the permanency hearing and appeal, the Claimant was involved in a subsequent work-related accident to the same part of the body.

Claimant did not return to work in order to assist a parent with a long-term health condition.

- Claimant was working as a tree cutter as part of the essential part of the job when the tree split and a limb weighing multiple hundreds of pounds struck him in the chest, back and other body parts. Injured worker was taken to Shock Trauma and was kept in patient for approximately seven days, at which point the worker was transferred to a rehabilitation hospital. After a period of convalesce at home, the worker returned back to work.

- Clients were employees of Bethlehem Steel Corp. at Sparrows Point. They were all diagnosed with occupational hearing loss. Many also experienced tinnitus. The Uninsured Employers’ Fund/Corvel denied medical benefits to the injured workers, including audiology testing, examinations, hearing aids and batteries. After multiple hearings, the injured workers reached an agreement with the Uninsured Employers’ Fund to reinstate all medical benefits and to reimburse the injured worker for any out of pocket expenses.
