In addition to about a half a dozen television and Baltimore Sun interviews and quotes in the last month, Warnken was tapped by the Baltimore Business Journal to give his opinions on new Baltimore City State’s Attorney Gregg Bernstein.  Warnken was asked about his friend Gregg Bernstein’s idea to bring young lawyers from big Baltimore law firms to perform brief stints in the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s office.  In theory, the city, the young attorney, and the private sector can all win.

The Baltimore Business Journal stated, “The idea of recruiting proescutors from the ranks of private firms makes sense to Byron Warnken, a criminal defense attorney and professor of criminal law at the University of Baltimore School of Law.  ‘It seems to me to be an ideal time for the big firms to send their best and brightest to the state’s attorney’s office to get some litigation experience,’ Warnken said.  He notes that back in the 1960’s, it was common for big firms to dispatch their young lawyers to the state’s attorney’s office for a few years of seasoning.”
